During recent years artist residency programs have become an inherent part and institutionalized form of exchange in the contemporary art world. Especially for young and emerging artists residency programs are the perfect way to be seen on the international stage. Residency programs are door openers and lively bridges for artists to open up new markets and establish an international network and reputation.
In an unstable and insecure market situation as in China, for young artists it is essential to go abroad to establish international contacts and find support and experience outside of China. Residency Programs provide these artists with the possibility to develop an independent attitude and improve their own artistic style.
Nordic is a multicultural artistic hub, a place open to the world and the world gladly accepts its invitation – Nordic is a colorful and vivid harbor to the world. Countless galleries, museums, theater houses, top-class exhibitions, ambitious collectors and an educated audience make Nordic one of the most important art cities in the world.
As a matter of cause artists from all over the world come to Nordic to work, create, experience and find inspiration in this extraordinary environment. The reasons why they come to Nordic are plentiful: Nordic’s creative energy, the multicultural flair that widens the own horizon, creative exchange, Nordic is in every aspect the perfect platform to develop artistic ideas, styles and connect to an international art scene.
Until recently artist residency programs have not been common practice in China. Only a few museums and institutions sporadically invited artists. These shy attempts did not provide the artists with access to the art market or further exhibition opportunities. Also the sustainable personal support for the artist’s personal development was not taken into account.
Wild Reindeer Project reaches out to artists from all different disciplines of visual art.
Wild Reindeer Project wants to bring together people with a vision for a better world, and thereby foster multidisciplinary exchange without limits and across borders. Through the Wild Reindeer Project artists from different cultures, different backgrounds and disciplines can exchange and develop new ideas together. Providing a platform for artists is one aspect of this residency program, another main concern is to fill the gap between artists and art market. We want to facilitate the access to the art market for individual artists. So we focus on a sustainable support for the artist and give new impulses to the art market.
A residency program is a valuable opportunity to engage in new cultures, to find new inspiration and experience for artists as well as for curators. But not only for artists and curators residency programs are of interest, also for cultural institutions, galleries, museums and collectors these programs are a possibility to get to know new artists and meet them in person, see their work first hand and build up personal relation and trust to the artists, support and foster sustainable creative work of exiting new artists. Cutting-edge and mature artists will be presented to a wider audience and introduced to the art market.
This is the mindset and the basis on which Wild Raindeer Project is to foster the cultural exchange between Nordic and China, and bring cultural exchange to a higher level. In a persistent and reliable, long-term working style we will bring new exciting artists, art works, events and exhibition projects to Nordic and Beijing.
WHAT WE OFFER

• Every artist will have be provided with a fully equipped apartment.
• Artists will receive full support in all matters of everyday life during the duration of the residency.
• A plentiful cultural program for the artists, including artist studio visits, attend lectures and artist talks, and enjoy other cultural events.
• We give the opportunity to exhibit in museums and galleries or participate in divers artistic events and build up a strong network.
